A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. — Socrates (469-399 BC)

We live lives of privilege, yet complain about everything. Even things we cannot control, the weather, parking blah blah blah. There are people in this world with distended bellies from lack of food/nutrition and yet we stuff our faces until it hurts and we’re 200 pounds overweight. I am not that overweight but if I don’t change my ways of thinking/eating I will be eventually. Why does greed and envy control our lives where happiness and joy should ensue? The simplest things in life bring us, or at least me, happiness: laughing and hanging with friends, helping others, experiencing the world around us whether through pictures, stories/books or travel. Everyone deserves the basic necessities, yet those who have them want more, more food, more space to live, more material things to fill your life. I know that I fit into this category though I wish I did not. But I want to change that. It’s time for me (and you) to be more mindful of the world and not just please yourself, but be aware of others wants and needs. Making a change in your ways and your thinking will result in a better you and if you make others a priority you will also create a better world. The experiment: “Change Your Life for the Better” starts now.
I’ll Be (Waiting For Someone to Sing This To Me)
“I’ll Be”
The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath.
And emeralds from mountains thrust toward the sky
Never revealing their depth.
Tell me that we belong together,
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated,
I’ll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above.
[Chorus:]
I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.
And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed.
You’re my survival, you’re my living proof.
My love is alive — not dead.
Tell me that we belong together.
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated,
I’ll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above
[Chorus]
And I’ve dropped out, I’ve burned up, I’ve fought my way back from the dead.
I’ve tuned in, turned on, remembered the things that you said
[Chorus:]
I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your…
I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.
The greatest fan of your life.
…greatest fan of your life.
Schedules Just Don’t Mix…
I had an interview for Legal Assistant/Runner/File Clerk at the Quaker Hill Historic Preservation Foundation the other day and when I got into the interview with Mr. Marin the first thing we went over was my schedule. I had already told the person who called and organized the interview my hours, but apparently that didn’t move any further. So as I listed off my schedule and Mr. Marin wrote it down, he spoke frankly about his needs for the job position and how my schedule would prevent me from getting the job. I understood because I don’t have many days off during the week to offer an employer this spring semester and I thought that would be it, but Mr. Marin went on. He continued to speak about my resume, discussing my interest in art history and art conservation (my majors). He spoke of the program at Winterthur, The American Material Culture, with which I am familiar and suggested I apply there. He also noted that I work at the Pharmacy. I explained that the reason for working there in the first place was to determine if I wanted to be a pharmacist, which I now do not. His daughter is now a pharmacist and he suggested it’s a good way to make money, but, and this is the most important part, do for a living what makes you happy. If you like going to work everyday you can make your living (your wages) work for your life. Even though I got turned down for the job due to circumstances I cannot truly control the interview was not a waste of time. The employer took the time to talk to me about my resume, my wants, my future and my life as a whole. If more interviews were like that I wouldn’t be so nervous/discouraged about trying to find a job and bet others would feel the same.
Really Foreign Artists? Really?
I have no issue with foreign musicians, music and the like but for some reason in Europe there’s a trend to create absolutely awful music videos. Like seriously? Why tape you walking around while your song is playing in the background. You’re not even singing half the time! Like that’s just a waste of money, not that other more involved music videos can’t be, but I’d rather go watch other people in real life because they’re more interesting than you and your sunglasses. You can stare silently out into the ocean? good for you? Okay so yeah basically I’m calling out Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina or just Edward Maya if you like. Love the song Stereo-love and his other stuff isn’t bad, but like the music video is just a waste of time to me. You may disagree whole heartedly, but I don’t care soooo keep it to yourself. And if you don’t believe me watch it for yourself by clicking the link above.
Has some very smart ideas, but also some obvious ideas that most people may overlook. Enjoyed reading it hope you do too.
